I was able to reshape and still use, fortunately. Once in, I covered the area with mulch, and they were hidden. Overall, these made my landscaping project a breeze, and considering the length of the staple. These pierced through the barrier and the soil, generally with just my hands/upper body. Great deal for the price too.
