I like these little flashlights. They give off a bright light, and they attach to a backpack or beltloop via mini caribeaner. The four colors make them easy to differentiate (great in a family of four). They each take 3 AAA batteries, so be prepared if you want to use each at once, because you'll need 12 batteries total.

The light these lanterns cast is a pretty, soft white. It doesn't have a beam like a normal flashlight, but can be hung from the top of a tent to impart a soft glow so you can see around you without being blinded by a full sized lantern.
