It's not been extremely cold yet to try this in the real cold weather. But, it did keep him warm the past couple of days. The Balaclave is really good quality material along with being soft and comfortable. The mesh at the mouth opening is wonderful! It helps keep the moister from breathing out. It goes down far enough to cover the neck area also
