Have not been to the beach with them yet, but they are very bright, easy to see. But I wouldn't leave them laying empty, they would blow away. Well made, looks like it would stand up to tough play by kids, or the salty ocean, the sand, and seashells. They are a great size for little hands but not too small for big hands.
