The sponge comes hard so you need to soak it. I used warm water and it took a few minuets but then it was alot softer and easy to use. I washed my face wit h the aloe spongefor combination skin and it feels clean and soft. It can be used alone or with your favorite body wash. The first time i used it alone and it did clean.
