The USB powered LED kit is an ideal kit to provide some ambient lighting around your various devices and screens such as TV, monitors or even desks. I do have a lighting kit around my desk already having a bit of a “battle station” to provide a bit of ambience, but nothing on my monitor so this product does offer a nice ambience around screens
Packaging and Construction

The item comes packaged in a small white box with an image of the device on it and some basic nomenclature.
In the box, you get a reel of LED strips, about 1.6 meters in all. 3 flexible ribbon cables a remote control (IR) and 4 small little coupling devices.
The LED strips have already been segmented into 4 strips connected together with each of the 4 strips containing 9 LED’s.
Use
*****
As mentioned above the LED strips come in segments. These segments can be pulled apart and the flexible ribbon cable can be added with the use of the coupling devices and essentially allow you to create angles or navigate the edge of say a TV. This helps allow you to affix a stip around each of the 4 edges for example.
Once done it's a simple process of connecting via USB which provides the power and clicking the remote. The remote has 15 Colors and allows you to select brightness and cycle through few modes such as flash or strobe.
The IR receiver is on the end of one of the strips and is the same location into which the USB power cable connects. On that note said Power to USB cable is about 50cm’s providing a bit of length from strip to plug in the USB cable.
For myself I found the signal was being received from about 2 meters away from the LED strip IR’s receiver which for myself was sufficient distance.
The strips themselves are stuck on with 3M double coated tissue tape, essentially a double sided sticky pad. Like most, I have found these to work okay but be mindful as adding and removing them loses the ability to stick so try and get it right the first time on a clean surface.
My only issue with the strip is they could have picked a slightly stronger 5050 RGB strip I would have thought. The strip only has 1 LED per small segment, with 9 per strip. Most 5050 strips usually have 3 x as much LED’s I have used. It does not take away from the brightness but would have been nice to see.
Summary
************
A neat little package to add some flair to your set-up. The colour options are reasonable as it the distance over which the remote functions. Getting the strips affixed is a painless and easy process so no complaints there. In all, it does what it says on the tin.
You can cut the strips to length to an extent. You will notice gold points after each LED along which the strip can be cut to size. Of course, you need to be wary as you lose the length of the strip. You will need to ideally cut back the plastic overly to do this.
