I have done a lot of sewing and quilting over the years, all the more so since the stay at home orders and quarantines took effect over 5 months ago. With the amount of masks I was making, I decided to explore making bias tape to use on them instead of edging with ribbons. I picked up this set of two and decided to try my hand at it. I did okay, but it wasn't perfect. There are two sizes so you can try to customize the size to your project. The two sizes are 1/4" and 3/4". They are made of metal and plastic, with a conical shape to help you funnel the fabric through as you fold it and pull it from the smaller end. The fabrics pulled through okay and folded for me, though I found it did not fold over perfectly. I still had to adjust it slightly as I pulled and had to iron it as I pulled it out, which was a little awkward for me to maneuver. The directions seem straight forward and simple enough, but I struggled a little. I don't know if I wasn't doing something right, used the wrong types of fabrics for edging, should have used a stabilizer, was too impatient and pulled too fast.... Or all of the above. But I found myself easily frustrated. I actually abandoned the idea of using them and now have them hidden away in the drawer with my other sewing notions that seemed like good ideas but are now unused. I decided I didn't need fancy edging and simply tucked my edges under and continued without the fancier borders, decorating with fancy stitches instead. Good idea and probably a great tool for someone with more patience and know how. But not something I will be using.
