This is a medium sized leash. The handle is red plastic and the rope is the flat ribbon-type. It is strong and great for small to medium sized dogs. If you have a large dog I believe it would work as well. The handle is easy to operate; to stop, let go, and lock. This is a great leash to let your pupper run around but then reel them back in when someone is close by. Overall a great purchase.
