This isn't a nail file, it is a nail polisher. You can buff your natural nails to have a shiny nail bed if you don't wear nail polish. When men receive a manicure their nails are buffed afterwards. The pads are included you receive 3 of each texture. The device does require 2AA batteries that are not included so be prepared. If you are looking for an electric nail file this won't file your nails. You can have beautiful natural nails by using the buffer to keep your nails polished giving them an appearance of a healthy non dull look.
