My nephew mentioned recently that he needed to get a tuner for his guitar and I thought I would purchase this for him for his birthday that is coming up in a few weeks.  This tuner is great for him because he also has a violin and the tuner has five tuning modes (Chromatic, guitar, bass, violin and ukeulele) and he will be able to use it for his violin as well.
This is a clip-on style tuner and has a bright and colorful LCD display.  The tuner head will turn 360 degrees so that you can view it from any angle.  It does come with a battery.
