As everyone has mentioned: some brushed do come with hairs sticking out and mine also did smell mike chemical product when they arrived. Since I am pregant, i immediately washed the brushes with soap and brush cleaner and let the dry. After the cleaning process, the smell went alway.

As for the hairs sticking out, it didnt bother me since I got what I paid for. I simply used sscissors to cut them off. It is important to note that after washing the brushes, more hairs may fall off or split. Not sure if it's due to my lack of handling brushes with care when cleaning or if it's the brushes themselves. Either way, they work great for me once I apply makeup, especially eye shadow. They do pick up the product, excpwt maybe not the highlighting brush, the fan. So I instead use a smaller eyeshadow brush, that is included into the package, and it works better.
