I honestly wasn't expecting this item to be this good. Up until the day of my purchase I was getting another GoPro to replace my broken one. They are not cheap and this item caught my eye. I will not be using it for diving as I have dedicated cameras for that but it passed snorkeling depths with flying colours. The casing clasp seems very secure and some find it difficult to open so use a flat head screwdriver, careful is the operative word. I usually go beyond its depth limits but it you are not then make sure you treat the O ring before use. I would also recommend rinsing the case in Milton, yes really.
Just check out its details and you wont believe it, I had doubts. The extras that come with it just kept falling out the package, yet another plus plus on GoPro.
Technical stuff - 4K Ultra HD action camera gives professional 4K 25fps & 2.7K 30fps video with 12MP photos at up to 30 frames per second for incredible photos, which is 4 times the resolution of traditional HD cameras, it really does. I got best results with a 32GB card as the colour and pixel resolution were spot on, the 64GB was actually more grainy. Once done using the App on iOS was so simple and after editing the results were shared.
The casing is definitely waterproof and it easily passed a mad powerboat session, as did the mounts used. The wireless wrist remote is so simple to use though it does depend on your environment. Snorkeling was easy, power boating proved harder with the constant buffeting but it does work. I used it on a 1 hour 20 minute session and there was no battery issue. Some have reported the spare backdoor is not waterproof, I can safely say mine is and I tested both in the sink BEFORE putting the camera in - no comment.
Transferring the photos by wifi can take some time but I don't think the Apps are as good as the camera - I have tried iSmart DV and PNJ iCAM and they have on occasion stuttered a little, not all the time.
I cannot comment on all the other alternatives but as an entire package against my GoPro (now broken), I would give the picture quality, ease of use, accessories and obviously the price to the Akaso.
Last tip - After buying it, you'd be mad not too, get comfortable using it and all the bits BEFORE putting it to the test. Trust me the camera will not let you down but human error always does.
It is an amazing piece of kit and as yet I cannot fault it. Well done guys, it's awesome.
