such a cool toy

My 8 year old daughter loves this set of two motion bubbler toys and I must admit that I am a little bit obsessed with them too. Whenever we flip this toy over, the colorful oil will drip down towards the bottom in random patterns. The colors appear to mix and then magically separate back when they reach the bottom. It was fun to watch my daughter’s thinking process when she was trying to figure out how this toy works and to see the moment that it clicked in her head when she discovered the true “secret” of this toy. We tried shaking it, tilting it and moving it in different directions to create different patterns. I had hoped to use this as a timer for when she is brushing her teeth but the timing is not accurate or consistent. I set it alongside the kitchen timer that she currently uses and the stopwatch on my phone to check for accuracy. The yellow/orange timer takes much longer than two minutes and the blue/pink timer was done in less than a minute and a half. I tried it multiple times and the times were never consistent so the timer function of these toys is not reliable when accurate timing matters. These might still be fine for use as a cool down or time out timer. We just enjoy playing with them and watching the magic happen. My daughter has managed to drop these a few times on the tile floor and so far, we have not experienced any leaking.
