I don’t know about you, but I really hate wasting food. So, I decided to give one of the home vacuum sealers a try so that I would not have to use an entire pack of chicken just so that it would not go bad. This vacuum sealer starter kit by Marigold seemed like a good choice since it was a reasonable price at $59.99 and came with sealing bags as well as the vacuum sealer. The product arrived in a box that was tightly packed and everything was secure. The product and the packaging were both undamaged. That said, I would not expect to get everything back into the box easily if you have any need to.

The product is green and white and aesthetically pleasing enough. It is compact and can fit comfortable in most of my cabinets if I want to store it between use. It is a bit longer than I anticipate, but I appreciate that because it fits a slighter wider bag than I thought it would. The starter kit comes with a trimmer for the pouches, a wine stopper, 10 of the vacuum seal pouches, 1 suction hose, 2 foam gaskets, and the owner manual as well as the sealer itself. It also came with a 12 month warranty card, but only if you were willing to write and submit a review. I found that to be in poor taste, personally. Yet, here I am writing my review.

This vacuum sealer has a section for dry and for moist food. I used it for chicken as my tester, but feel free to experiment with other foods and let me know what you think! In addition to storing food, you can put in a marinade and vacuum seal to get the marinade deep into the meat and that was what I tried first. I tried a simple Italian dressing based marinade for an hour and then cooked my chicken. While it was not quite the same amount of flavor as sitting over night, this is definitely a good fix if you forgot to marinade the meat ahead of time and dinner is only an hour or so away. The wine stopper is actually a part of the vacuum sealed too. You can put it in, suck out the air, and try to keep your wine fresh longer. That said, it is wine so that will only work for so long. The vacuum sealer also worked well for sucking the air out of a food bag and sealing the bag shut. I put it directly in the freezer and currently see no signs of freezer burn, but only time will tell.

All in all, I would give this a 4 out of 5 stars. The box could be a bit easier to store the device in between uses and the owner’s manual could be a bit more comprehensive. Beyond that though, it worked well for the marinade and seemed to create a good seal for freezing food. Obviously I’ve only had it for a few days, so I cannot attest yet to whether or not it increases the longevity of the food. I am cautiously optimistic on that.
