With all of the camping my boys do in Boy Scouts, we have a lot of different styles of lanterns in the cabinet. I could probably provide each patrol with two lanterns with all that I have amassed over time. It is amazing how the camping supplies have gone from us having nothing to having so much stuff we don't use half of it. The life of a Scouting family.... A friend of mine wanted a good lantern and this is one I have in our collection, so made sure she got one that was good by picking this up for her.
This lantern is similar to others I have that I like to use when I am camping with the boys, but much smaller and more compact. It collapses on itself when not in use and you pop it up when you want to use it. I like the fact that you don't have to pop it all the way up to get light from it, though. You can only open it part way and switch it on, limiting the amount of light you use. It also has a light on the end, allowing you to use it as a large flashlight, which is awesome but overkill if you are camping and just need to do a quick bathroom run. But it is awesome for searching for things because it provides you with tons of light.
It is lightweight and portable, but if you are a hiker and have limited space or want a lighter load to carry, it might not be good. But if you are a car camper and have tubs, this is a great addition. It is small enough to easily fit in your supply tub or bag, but not bulky or cumbersome.
It has magnets on the bottom that you can use to attach it to things (you can even hang it upside down on the inside of a metal cover) so works great for sheds and other tight spaces. It comes with a cable to charge it, but it is also solar powered, so you won't need that if you are in a place where you have limited electricity. It also has a place you can plug in a USB cord, allowing you to charge it that way, too, which is convenient if you carry a power bank everywhere like I do.
It is quite bright for being such a small lantern and works great. I may just leave it in the car for emergency purposes or for when we are out in the evenings and needing some additional lighting. It is small enough it will fit in the space in the back of my SUV easily without taking up a lot of room, but bright enough that it will easily light up whatever area we are in. It is also great to have on hand for power outages, since it is battery operated.
I love this lantern and can't wait to get the reaction from my friend when she takes it on her next campout. This is THE best lantern I have found so far and I can't say enough positive things about it!
