USB-C is relatively new to laptops, but where Apple lead, the market usually follows. My MacBook Pro has a row of USB-C sockets and nothing else. Gone are the usual array of ports, slots and connector options - connection versatility is just so yesterday! Which means connector hubs are the new must-have item for folks like me who want to hook up all their legacy tech. This one from OMARS is rather good.

THE POSITIVES
* Compact and well made
* Excellent selection of useful ports
* Ethernet port is a real bonus for MacBook users.
* This is a powered hub (via your existing USB-C notebook charger)

THE NEGATIVES
* Doesn't come with a case / bag

Somehow, the listing manages to make it seem larger than it is in reality. Other reviewers have said this too, and it's a pleasant surprise discovering how compact this well made port actually is. The case is a section of silver brushed aluminium with the electronics slotted in and sealed inside with plastic end caps. The lead is long enough for it to be very conveient - just right to sit next to my Mac.

The connectability is perfect, and gives me everything I personally need - three USB (2x USB3) for most of my gear including printers and all those charger leads, a full sized SD card for my DSLR, a micro SD for my phone and digital recorder, 4K (same form factor as HDMI) so I can connect with my hifi and home cinema receiver or directly to myTV, and even an ethernet port! This last one is perfect for office workers and anyone wanting to ensure the fastest possible download speeds, by plugging directly into their internet hub.

This is a sealed-for life device so I'm unable to open it and tell you what's inside. It looks and feels pretty sturdy on the outside though. In use mine plugs in and works perfectly, without issue. So, it's well made, looks good, and it transforms the connectability of my Mac. I recommend it.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

One word of general caution relating to all devices like this - if you're dealing with particularly sensitive information (client records, bank information, valuable intellectual property and especially military or national security matters) then try and avoid transferring data via any kind of peripheral device. They can be compromised (either during or post manufacture) and pose a risk in an otherwise secure chain or data stream. It's easy to insert data logging and spyware chips in them, and you might be giving someone a back door into your system. Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting there's an issue with this particular product - it's general advice covering all data peripherals.
