The original want for this item was so that a young child could carry her "baby" (doll) like mommy carries their baby sibling. It is perfect for what I wanted it for. It is so cute as well. It is just what you would expect. The straps seem like nylon straps and they are attached similar to a backpack strap would be attached. I would put anything too heavy in to carry but a babydoll is just fine.
