Every once in a while you come across a gotta have item, if you are into BBQ - you gotta have one of these! This item works great and helps to ease the pain of those 12 hour cooking session. I have had no problems with the remote unit losing signal. I did have one scare where the probes began to register errors. This happened during a brisket smoke and believe that pockets of liquefied fat were causing higher than normal readings to occur. Just make sure that neither probe is sitting in liquid if you start getting odd readings.
