Effective at first glance, but messy!

Like many of you, I have recently seen a lot of ads for the charcoal based teeth whitening on Facebook. So, when I saw this product by Bellamei on Amazon for only $14.99, it seemed to be worth giving it a shot. The product comes in a plastic tub with the name and basic details on the tub. The container is efficient and comes nearly full. The tub arrived undamaged and the words on the container were clearly legible, which was helpful since it included the directions for use.

This product is simple to use. You just dampen your toothbrush, I would suggest with slightly warm water. Then, put a pinch of the charcoal powder into your hand and run the toothbrush through it to pick up the powder. You do not need excess on the toothbrush for the product to work for brushing your teeth. When you are done brushing your teeth like normal, you rinse your toothbrush thoroughly and then brush with just the wet toothbrush to remove the powder. While this is not in the directions, I would also consider using mouthwash to ensure you get the powder fully out of your mouth. I took a picture before and after brushing my teeth with the product for the first time, and I was able to see a slight difference. After slightly longer use, the slight difference is a little more pronounced. That said, I’ve only had the product for a brief period of time so I cannot say how much better or worse it will do with long term use at this time.

Overall, I would rate this product with a 4 out of 5 stars for short term use. I have not had the product long enough yet to really assess the long term benefits. The taste is not nearly as unpleasant as I would have expected, it is just a soft mint taste with a slight chalky texture.  Overall, the taste was no better or worse than your average toothpaste. It was easy to brush onto my teeth and did not stain my toothbrush when I rinsed the toothbrush right after brushing my teeth. It also did not stain the sink, although again, I rinsed the sink right after finishing which is my normal procedure for brushing my teeth. The only real drawback – the powder clings to your skin and is easy to spread. Be careful, or it could end up everywhere!
