Safe for Little Hands

I had my doubts about this can opener because it has a plastic handle. We have had really bad luck with plastic handles breaking when we were trying to open lids on cans.  I was pleasently suprised though when it opned without much pressure on the handle.  The handle has a rubber grip which adds padding to your palm when opening cans. It has a bounce feel which abosorbs some of the impact against your hand. I was confused on how to hook the can opener up to the can at first as I have never had one without teeth/blade to cut a sharp edge into a can. It has a metal bar that sits on top of the can lid which acts as a support during each crank of the handle. The actual "blade" which is dull but spins slides around under the can top to loosen the grip of the can to the lid.  This can opener has no sharp blades or gears that could hurt little fingers - so guess what kids, you are learning to cook! The opener slips under the lid to puncture the seal that holds the can together. This allows the lid to come off with no sharp edges. I took the lid in my hand and ran my fingers across the edge without fear. No more fear of sharp metal tops tearing the trash bags in my recyling can. If you are teaching your kids to cook I would suggest this can opener. Dishwasher safe and no size limit for the can, use on anything that needs to be open that is located in a can. My can opener did not come with instructions just sealed in a plastic bag. It only took me about 2 minutes to figure out how to use it though because it is super easy.
