I hate cooking for its vagueness BUT I love baking for its precision. If this sounds like you then you're not too far off from wanting a perfectly, uniformed, and precise thickness. At first, I was concern about the guide rolling on to the dough but it's wide enough that it's not a concern. The win here is that it's EVEN!
