Awesome pack

The boys have a campout coming up next weekend and this pack arrived just in time to outfit Caleb with a new one. His last pack was way too large for his small size (the child seems like he is never going to grow, being one of the shortest in the Troop though he has been there a year now) and he needed something he could carry easier. Though I got him a 60L, it is much more compact in size and works so much better for him than the last one (which was 65L).   It has tons of straps and pockets, just like any good pack would. It has the waist strap that is padded, allowing him to buckle it around his waist to help distribute weight evenly and keep it from shifting while he hikes his gear in from the trailer and up to their campsite. It has a side pocket that he can put a water bottle in to, as well as side pouches that zipper shut and helps make the smaller things easier to find.   I was very impressed by the zippers and pulls on this pack. They are large and solidly made. You don't have to worry about them breaking while you are out and about with this pack. I have had a few packs so far that have had cheap pulls on them that break within the first few uses, so I was pleased to see larger pulls that are made of metal and are solid.   I think this is going to be a great backpack for my son. I do not think it would make a good hiking backpack, though. It does not have a place to put a hydration bladder, loops to hang it from, or a hole to thread the spout through. For anyone who is hiking and carrying their pack on their back the whole time, this doesn't afford you the convenience of packing your water like that.   Side note - the Amazon listing says this comes with a free night flashlight that is shown with a carabiner so you can clip it on to your pack. Mine did not include this. I don't know if that was an oversite when the manufacturer bagged things up or if I happened to get a previously opened pack, but regardless, mine was missing. Not a big deal to me since I wanted the pack itself and we have numerous lights for my boys to use, but it would have been nice had it been in the package with the pack since it was listed on the Amazon page as being included.   Overall I am seeing this as a great pack and one that will be used every month by my son.
