Protection from Dirt and Sand? Yes please!

So, this Illumifun picnic blanket is a great size. I took pictures of it on my queen size bed for comparison and its width matched that of my bed. It is probably big enough for three people to sit comfortably with food, maybe 4 if some of the people involved are children. Each of the four corners has a black pocketed area and loops that can be used to stake it to the ground securely. That is a nice touch, as many light weight blankets are difficult to use without weighing them down.

The blanket is waterproof and very light as well. According to its advertisement, it is also puncture resistant although I do not have much chance to test that. If nothing else, I can say that my cat walked across it without leaving the tiny pin prick holes that are the ban of my camping equipment such as tents or air mattresses. It folds up into a small carrying bag with a pouch and a clasp so it is easy to travel with. That said, you do have to fold it carefully to ensure it will fit without needing to fight with it. I included a picture of the carrying bag with the blanket in it as well.

One down side, although likely the cost of it being water proof, this feels more like a plastic tarp than a comfortable blanket. It is great that it is waterproof, but other than protection from dirt, water, etc. this won’t add much padding to the ground you are sitting on. It is also a bright blue, so it certainly won’t blend in to the environment if you are going for a more natural feel. That said, I think the fact that it is water proof makes up for that as it can be difficult to find a picnic blanket that works to protect you and your clothing when the ground beneath the blanket is wet.

All in all though, this is definitely a suitable product for a picnic, a table or ground cover, or just to have a place on the ground to sit without risking getting your cloths dirty. It could also be useful for photo shoots and other outdoor activities as a way to keep your supplies off of the ground and away from the dirt or sand. I personally plan to take it with me the next time I can find an excuse to go to the beach. I don’t know about all of you, but I hate coming home and needing to pour sand out of my supplies.
