This ALWOA whetstone is an impressively high quality sharpening system. The bamboo base holds the whetstone securely in place while sharpening, which is essential for safety, as well as getting a sharp edge. The stone itself is two sided, each side formulated differently. One side has a grit of 1000, and the other is 6000,for getting a Razor sharp finish on the edge of the blade. The stone is designed to be pre-soaked in water for about 10 minutes prior to use, which allows a new sharpening surface to be used with each swipe, and prevents nicks, burrs, and gouges in the blade while sharpening. If you've never used a whetstone before, there's even a plastic guide included that slips onto the back of your knife to help you get the feel of the perfect angle to achieve a Razor sharp edge. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there are no instructions or anything that helps the user identify what each of the included pieces is called on what it's function is. Fortunately, I have experience using a whetstone, but if this had been my first time purchasing one and had never used one before, I would have no idea what to do with it or how to use it properly.
