Won't hold my phone up

My husband has one of these mount types of cell phone holders in his car and it seems to work pretty good. I had one in the past, but it was one that suction cupped on to the window or the dash and it always fell off. I couldn't get it to grip it tightly enough. I ditched it pretty fast, but my husband has had more luck with his. When I saw the vent clip, I thought that might prove to be better for me.

The vent clip itself works great. It is secure in my vent and stays put. It doesn't matter how many bumps or how many twists and curves I go through. It has held fast and hasn't shifted in the least.

But the holder itself is problematic. It rotates freely for you to adjust the angle, but it won't stay in the angle I adjust it to. If I hit a bump, the angle adjusts again. It didn't matter where I put the phone in the holder, it was always too heavy to hold it straight and gravity pulled it down against the vent. I couldn't find any way to tighten the screw on piece on the back to make it stay.
