Fun, but beautiful DIY Painting

 

It took me about a week to knock this out, but I had a blast doing it. I haven't done a paint by number since I was young. I have painted and dabbled with my own artwork, which I thoroughly enjoy, but I haven't picked up another paint by number over the years. I saw this one and thought why not? It should be fun!   Plus, the design is one that works well with the decor in my living room. I figured if it turned out nice enough, I could frame it and hang it on the walls. I love the autumn colors and the design is similar to the other paintings I have up currently, one set being a 3 in 1 canvas arrangement. This blends perfectly with those paintings.   In the kit you get the canvas (it was folded and I still can't seem to get them to smooth out, though I have had it laid flat and have worked on it for the past week), the paint pots all numbered, two paintbrushes of differing sizes, a postcard image of the completed work, the corresponding instruction/color sheet, and some tools to help hang it. I found it interesting that there are pieces that you can use to hang it, but no frame included. I have to hunt up a frame for it next so that I can stretch it over it to mount, then hang.   I had no problems with the image on the postcard being matched up with what I was painting. The colors all seemed to correspond with the correct numbers and placement, and I had more than enough paint to finish the entire thing with some left over. The numbers and lines on the canvas are a bit hard to cover with some of the colors, but you have plenty of paint that you can use to go over it once it dries. I spent a day or so doing touch ups to cover where it looked messy, where it was a bit blotchy from not drying evenly, and to cover up any lines or numbers that still shone through.  Some of the spaces are quite small and difficult to paint without overlapping previous colors or other areas, but it works out if you are careful and then do touch ups after.   Overall, this turned out pretty good. It is a bit less detailed than I would have liked, and for a long time just looked like a huge camo mess, but it all came together in the end and I am happy with it.
