My husband and I have talked about investing in a vacuum sealer for our kitchen for awhile. We have wanted some way to preserve our foods and keep them sealed. Wrapping with plastic wrap, foil, or leaving things in a bowl with a cover don't keep them sealed. They have air in the wrapping with them, so there is room for other things to get in, or worse, bacteria and mold to grow. But most sealers we have seen are super expensive or they are big and bulky. We have limited space in our kitchen (thanks to my habit of collecting kitchen gadgets and utensils), so I needed something smaller and slim.
This unit is about 15 inches long and 2 inches tall, 2 inches wide. I love the fact that it is compact and slim. I can easily slide this in to one of the cabinets, or slide it into the space between the top of the refrigerator and upper cabinets. In the package you get the sealing unit, an accessory hose, a user manual, and five vacuum sealer bags. It plugs in to any electical outlet with a normal plug. It does make noise when you use it, but it is not noisy and distracting. It won't be louder than anything else in your home, and it goes relatively fast so won't be noisy for long.
It is very simple to use. I was impressed at how easy it is, and how strong the seal is on the package. It definitely pulled all of the air out and left the meat I had put in it with a tightly wrapped seal that worked perfectly for putting it in the freezer. I was seperating the meat in to smaller packages for easier use. In the past I used freezer ziplock bags, but never could get all of the air out, no matter how hard I tried. But not any more! Now I can seal with no problems and no air.
You place your item in the bag, insert the ends of the bag in to the sealing unit, then press the button to seal. You can either seal or vacuum seal. You can hit the stop button at any time or let it finish on its own. Bags can be picked up at any store or on Amazon. You don't have to use a specific brand with this unit. I love that! When you are not using the machine, be sure to insert the little cardboard piece or something else in it to keep it from sealing itself and sticking it shut.
When I was reading the Amazon listing description I was surprised to find out that you can use this for much more than sealing and preserving food. They suggested using it to store your smaller items. I have vacuum bags that you either roll to squeeze the air out or attach your floor vacuum hose to and then suck the air out. These work the same way, but on a smaller level. You can seal up your smaller items like jewelry you don't want to lose and keep it from corroding and tarnishing. You can seal items you want to keep clean when traveling, making sure they are kept germ and bacteria free. The sky is the limit.
This is a great unit and super easy to use. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a vacuum sealer for their kitchen. If you run your own business and want to ship out products that are sealed, I can really see this being a great investment!
