Serves a need I didn't even know I had. I got it for a convenient place to set my phone while it charges, without the bulky OEM charger. Works on both my phone and mini Ipad (and is big enough to hold both), without blocking all my outlets. But the bonus is the light -- I didn't know a nightlight with a photosensitive switch was something I needed, but it is delightful, not too bright but bright enough to be helpful late at night, and I don't have to remember to turn it off at dawn.
