the entire thing is made of plastic, but this makes it lightweight enough to stay on the wall w/o drilling the screws in. The sticky backing is holding up really well and has not come off at all. I have had my sunglasses and 3 sets of key rings hanging from it and it has not fallen. It looks cute. I just wish it wasnt 100% plastic. Even the key hooks are plastic.
