Great knife but heavy

My boys do a lot of camping and outdoor activities, thanks to Scouts. Because of that, we need to have some good pocket knives on hand. It is amazing how fast a child can dull a knife and how no matter how many sharpenings you do, you always have to sharpen some more! I have whet stones for each one of us now since the boys kept stealing mine!

I picked this up as a Christmas present for my younger son and am hoping the blade is not too big for his hand (in Scouts the boys measure their knife by the blade - if it is longer than your palm is wide, the knife is too big for you to use and not allowed). He has always been on the smaller side but is finally beginning to grow, and I think this knife might be an okay size for him. It is about the size of my palm when laid across it, so I think it may be an okay size for him. We shall see. Regardless, I think he will carry it with him when he goes.

And even better, it is not a super expensive one, so all the better! It is a nice solid knife and seems like it is going to be a good one. It is definitely  heavier than the one I have been using, which I thought was quite heavy itself. But this one is definitely heavier. Yet I don't believe it will be so heavy that he can't use it. It is just something heavier than he is used to having in his pockets  and will add more weight to his daypack.

It is a nice looking knife, too. The blade is two toned in color. The Amazon listing says it is made of 440C Stainless Steel and  has an oxidized black blade face. The blade hardness reaches 57 HRC, which means nothing to me but probably does to someone who knows knives. It is spring assisted on loading and locks in place while open so you shouldn't have problems with it trying to close while being used.

Overall, this is a great knife that looks great and cuts great. I think it will work out great for my son on his campouts in the future.
