First off, this product has inconsistent labeling. Like other matcha that comes in a can, the matcha inside is sealed in a package to keep it fresh. On the canister it says "Product of Japan" but then it has "Product of Taiwan" on the interior package.
Besides the inconsistent labeling on the packaging, the matcha powder itself is mediocre at best. The color is not nearly as vibrant as some of my premium matcha and the smell is more muddled. It lacks the fresh sweet smell I get from really good quality matcha. The color of the matcha just looks more yellow than the green I am used to seeing.
When I drink this whisked with just water, no sweeteners, this matcha isn't bitter but it really taste like it smells, somewhat muddled flavor that taste more like a cup of green tea rather than matcha. In an unsweetened latte wasn't spectacular either. In a latte, many of the harsh notes come through.
Overall, I may use this matcha to make bread or cakes but it isn't matcha that I'd use to prepare my daily morning matcha.
