The flexible connector allows the unit to connect to the computer in many formations making it convenient to use on the go. There is an LED light on the unit that confirms it is reading the card, which is very helpful. I bought this to place on my computer desk so I don't have to connect my external drives or other USB accessories to my desktop. 
Functions well and I have tested it and it will easily connect and power two external drives and an SD card simultaneously. I especially like the SD card reader, which is sort of spring loaded like my DSLR. You push it in and click, then when you want to remove the SD card, you push in again to eject it.  The unit is tiny, but it works well.  I was shocked for such a small and affordable device that it would work so well. I am happy about my purchase.
