Ready for sun!

With all of the activities and outdoor events that we do, we need good sun protection. I love hats, but hate how baseball caps leave my ears and neck exposed. I am always looking for wide brim hats like this to keep me protected and prevent burning. I wasn't planning to buy this hat for myself when I saw it, but my friend wanted one and said we need to match, since we go to so many of these events together. So I picked up two of them for us so that we can match on our various outings and adventures.   The hat is far larger than some of my other wide brim hats and covers quite a lot. It is definitely a WIDE brim! But it is not something that is huge and annoying. I have a few larger sunhats that are more straw like or woven and they are far larger than this. But I love wearing them. I just don't see them as something I can quickly grab out and take along on our trips because they can't be rolled up and packed away.   You can get the hat in grey, olive, or tan. I got our hats in grey, but think the shade is closer to olive than grey. They say the hats fit women and youth, so measure to be sure it will fit your head. It is a great fit for me, even without measuring. I don't know if it would fit men, but is marketed as being unisex. The dimensions are 21.5 inch circumference head and  3.75”-5” brim, though I am not sure what they mean by that second measurement since it is a range. The string around the neck has a toggle on it to allow you to tighten it up and keep it in place on your head when you have breezy conditions or think you might risk losing it. It is interesting that they also included another drawstring and toggle on the back of the hat to allow you to adjust it to tighten up on your head, too, making it smaller around.   It is made of a quick dry material, which is good for me because I sweat a lot, especially when out hiking or moving about in summer (which is when I would need it, being a camp director and working outdoors during that time). It has mesh netting on the sides of the hat, which allow your head to stay cool and release any heat you build up while wearing it. It is lightweight, so won't feel heavy on your head and cause more sweating, and it is breathable.  It is also supposed to be good for SPF/UPF protection, but I haven't tried it out in the outdoors yet. I have only tried it on to see how it feels and looks.   I think this is going to be a good hat. I do plan to embellish it slightly to personalize it for my style and give it a more girly feel. I always do that with hats like this, that way I have something that is different and stands out a bit more. And I never have to worry about my hat being taken by someone who accidentally mistook it for their own!
