~ What ~
This set includes 2 small white electrical plug-ins that allow a person to control appliances via his or her wifi smartphone without needing a hub. After downloading an app to a smartphone, the 2-inches round by a ½ -inch deep (without the 3 prongs) units can be controlled at a distance using the phone or by the Amazon Echo’s voice command. Arriving in a small box, the plug-in comes with instructions and a QSR code to download.
~ Why ~
I already have several of these units and absolutely love them as I use them with Alexa and my smartphone. This system also works with Tuya (SmartLife), which is the same download I already use. I like that it can be set on a timer too. I also appreciate that I can tell Alexa to turn it on or off any time of day.
~ Why Not ~
Those who do not like having more apps on their smartphone or already use timer plug-ins may not be interested in this unit. Others may not own an Echo to have the unit go off or on verbally, but it can be used only as a timer with your phone. Since my router is Xfinity which includes 2.4gHz and 5gHz, I had more trouble than usual syncing the plugs; I had to change the wifi router settings to a different channel for the 5gHz so the app would search for the 2.4gHz first.
~ Wish ~
I wish the adaptors were available in other colors to match a room’s décor or plug-in faceplates.
~ Want ~
If you are looking for an inexpensive way to control a light or appliance while not at home or automatically, this set of 2 handy plug-ins works great with a smartphone app or Amazon’s Alexa.
