Having done foster care for six years, we have gone through quite a few diaper bags of all different sizes. We are now at the end of our fostering journey, having finalized our adoption of one of the babies just this last month, and my diaper bags that I have are beginning to look pretty shabby. The small diaper bag I have been relying on for nearly every trip has been sewn back together a few times. I decided it was time to pick up a new bag to see us through the final year of having to carry a diaper bag with little miss.
This bag is a little larger than I am used to using, but works great. It is not as bulky as some of my other bigger bags. And I love all of the pockets and pouches that this bag has! It is easy to organize things and then find them quickly without needing to include any extra organizer inserts. I was able to put my diapers in one pocket on the inside, then the wipes in the side pocket that has a zipper to keep the opening to the wipes closed. I put a change of clothes in another inside pocket, and all of her little extras that I include (brush, nail scissors, diaper rash cream, sunscreen, etc.) in another. There is an insulated pocket on the outside that you can use for bottles, as well as an additional insert that is insulated and can be used for bottles. You get a changing pad that matches, as well as a wet bag, and another small pouch. I actually had more pouches than I had a need for, for the first time ever. And there was still plenty of room in the diaper bag for toys, blankets, or other things.
I love the straps on this, too. You have shorter handles that velcro together on the top of the bag that are perfect for quick grab and go. There is a long strap you can put over your shoulder that detaches if you don't wish to use it. And there are backpack straps that are attached, though I do wish there was an option to remove these when using the shoulder strap or hand straps. I like the options for how you can carry this. Makes it quite convenient, whatever the situation.
I took it with us to the beach the other day and it was awesome. I was able to include all of the normal things I would use, plus her bathing suit and swimmer diapers, sun hat, toys for the car ride, snacks, plus had plenty of room to put in my wallet, keys, and a few bottles of water to take down on the beach. I didn't have to worry about having to take my purse with me since I could easily put things in this bag in their own pocket and find them quickly when needed. And having the backpack straps made it a lifesaver for taking things down since I had a bag of sand toys, towels, chairs, the sand blanket, and the baby. When we were walking around town after hitting the beach and she was in the stroller, my 14 year old wore it like a backpack, but we could have easily hung it from the stroller.
I am very happy with this diaper bag and though it is larger, I think it is going to be our go to diaper bag for everything now. With little miss getting older now, she wants to carry her bag. I planned on getting her a small backpack to use as a diaper bag, so as long as we don't load this down too much, she can carry it herself.
