I am honestly not sure what to say about squishy stress ball types of toys like this, but probably should have thought of that before agreeing to do a review for an item like this. :-) Regardless, I know how much my kids enjoy having stress balls and novelty items, so when I saw these, I knew they would enjoy having them. We have a few other squishies that they keep in their room currently and I was pretty sure these would be a hit.
And I was right. When they first walked in after school and saw the package sitting on my desk, they asked if I had bought a huge bag of candy. I laughed and told them if it was candy, it had to be giant Runts, since those were some of the shapes that were included. You get a banana, orange, strawberry, apple, and peach. They were far larger than I expected them to be, which surprised me when I opened the package when they arrived.
The packaging itself is fairly cheap. It is just a large cellophane bag that came open in transit. But each of the individual fruits was wrapped on its own in another cellophane baggie. I was a bit surprised to find the smell actually permeated the cellophane and you could smell a sweet scent just handling the bags. I hadn't even unwrapped them yet and could smell the sweetness they offered.
They are made of a squishy, self-rising PU foam. When you squeeze them, they wrinkle as they shrink then slowly rise back to shape. It does take awhile for the foam to fill with air again to reinflate to their normal size, but they do go back and don't come out misshapen or with wrinkles left behind. They haven't torn yet, despite squish after squish after squeeze and abuse. My son has even twisted them and they haven't torn.
They are all scented, but I am not sure what the scent is supposed to be. They are not fruity, in the sense that you have a banana scent or strawberry or peach. But they are sweet smelling. I can't place the scent. One Amazon reviewer called it bubble gum, while my son said it is more of a mango type of smell. I can't tell, though.
There IS a parent advisory of age 8 on these, so don't let your little ones play with them. I have an 18 month old and know that the appeal of the shape, scent, and texture is almost irresistable for her, so I have to take caution when she is around. And the dogs are just as bad. They are not child safe or dog safe, so please be sure to supervise kids and pets when they are out.
Why buy a boring old stress relief ball when you can add some fun with these novelty stress fruits instead? Great novelty gift and perfect for white elephant exchange gifts that aren't tacky and offensive.
