Head torches can be very useful tools when needing to use both hands in a dark or dimly lit conditions. I imagine many of us including me have had to hold a small torch in the mouth whilst having to change a fuse (in the old days before circuit breakers) or something else in a power cut or emergency situation. For years I've used a bulky head torch which was powered by 4 x AA batteries which contributed to the weight of the torch, whilst useful it had it's limitations so when it recently stopped working I decided to look for a smaller, lighter rechargeable replacement.
I saw this 2 x head torch set from Bedee and thought this would be ideal for me and I could give the other head torch to one of my friends who walks his dogs on an unllt field most nights. The head torches come in individual boxes contained in a larger box making them ideal if you are buying them as gifts for a couple of people. Inside each box is the head torch, a user manual and a USB type A to micro USB charging cable, These head torches will charge from any source that has a USB port providing a 5 volt output and have a 4 x LED power meter to indicate the state of charge.
This head torch is considerably smaller and lighter in weight than my previous one and once I'd adjusted the elasticated head band felt comfortable and secure on my head. The torch uses 3 x XPG LED spotlights plus two COB ( Chip on Board) LED side lights capable of white or red light . The red light will also flash the Morse SOS signal so can be used as an emergency beacon. There are 6 modes of lighting offering brightness range between 280 to 1500 Lumens and the 1500 mAh rechargeable lithium when fully charged should give about 60 minutes of power at maximum illumination mode or a longer use time in a lower illumination mode.
This head torch has a novel function I hadn't come across before which might prove useful if using the head torch in an activity where you are likely to have dirty hands such as emergency car repairs. This is a "Hands Free" mode where all you have to do is wave a hand in front of the torch to turn it on or off using a motion sensor built into this head torch.
With an IPX5 rating this head torch should be okay in most weather conditions, though I wouldn't recommend immersing it in water, for normal outdoor activities such a jogging, camping, fishing etc, and the torch seems to be well made to stand up to a few knocks it might get during these activities.
