When I saw this wig, I decided I had to have it for our family. I know it is only April, and Halloween is a long way away, but I figured it is never too early to pick up some fun things to have in the house when the kids suddenly decide they want to have a costume, but didn't give mom the chance to take them shopping beforehand. That happened this last year, and I was on the hunt for anything in the house to give my kids to wear. No more worrying about that if I have things like this wig on hand!
I am not entirely pleased with this, though. It is very bushy on top and very hard to get settled to make it look right. When I first put it on I thought I looked like an old gypsy woman. I didn't look like a pirate AT ALL. It was super fluffy on top and it took some poking and tucking to get all of the coarse hair under the bandana. Then the bandana looked super tall and was not tight against my head at all. It is nearly impossible to get the bandana pulled tight since there are no adjusters for the bandana itself. There ARE adjusters inside the wig cap, though, so you CAN get the right fit. There are little loops all the way around the inner border that you can hook the elastic strap to, customizing the size of it to fit your head and keep it in place without needing hairpins. It also comes with a stocking cap that you can put over your head and regular hair, to make it easier to put the wig on.
The hair itself is very coarse and hard. It is not soft at all, but you wouldn't expect it to be soft since it is dreads. But I was not expecting it to be as rough as it is. And if the dreads get untwisted or come free from the rest of it, it becomes a big rats nest of hair that doesn't twist back in with the rest. I had a horrible time keeping it looking like it was supposed to. It quickly became a mess being passed back and forth between my boys.
I do think that with some work, this wig would work. I think it needs a lot of customizing to make it work, though. It takes a lot of tucking, pinning, and possibly some stitching to get things to stay in place the way you want it to prevent it looking like a giant poof on top of your head. I think that if you can spend the time to pull and pin and tuck, you can get this wig to look the way it is supposed to, and then rely on the inner adjustments to get it fit to your head.
If you are looking for a quick costume wig, this is not the way to go. You can't just buy this and put it on and go to your party. It takes some work to get it to look right.
