Perfect daypack for scouts

I had a friend from Scouts ask for help in picking a good day pack for her son who wanted a hydration bag to be able to use when hiking. I decided we'd try out this bag because it is larger than the other hydration backpacks I have seen (or the ones we use when bike riding), so he'll have more room for items required by Scouts (the 10 essentials).

It has tons of straps and pockets, just like any good pack would. It has the waist strap that is padded, allowing him to buckle it around his waist to help distribute weight evenly and keep it from shifting while he hikes, but this can be removed from the pack to convert it to just a normal backpack style day pack with no brace or padded waist. It has the inner pouch for you to slide your water bladder in to and the hole to thread the hose through with loops to run it through so it stays in place on your shoulder strap.   The pack is 15L, if you are curious about actual size. It is not heavy or bulky in any way. It also has a small zippered pouch in the very bottom of the pack that you can open to reveal a waterproof cover that slides over your pack and protects it from the rain. These covers also make for great seating when the ground is damp. Love the hidden pocket in the bottom that holds it!

I was very impressed by the zippers and pulls on this pack. They are large and solidly made. You don't have to worry about them breaking while you are out and about with this pack. I have had a few packs so far that have had cheap pulls on them that break within the first few uses, so I was pleased to see larger pulls that are made of metal and are solid.

I think this is going to be a great daypack for my sons' friend. It is definitely larger than a normal hydration backpack, but not as large as a standard sized backpack that you would use for school. He didn't want a large pack that would feel bulky or burdensome, but his mom and I wanted to be sure he had one large enough for his 10 Essentials, and this has worked perfectly.

And last weekend they went on their campout where he got to try it out. I asked how it worked for him when we were picking kids up on Sunday. He was excited about how great it worked and how it was the perfect size for him. His mom loved that I was able to find him something that was so perfect for his needs at a reasonable price. I am pleased I got to help my friends out and they weren't disappointed that I got something no good!   Great hydration backpack for hiking and camping.
