I didn't need a cheese slicer. I have one already. But I know my mom didn't have one, so figured I would pick one up for her. I thought this looked like a good one, and I was really impressed with the kitchen tools I already got from the company, so figured it should be a good set to pick up. I may not give her the 2nd item, though. I don't have a corner cutter tool and think I may want to keep it for myself.
In this set you get the cheese slicer and the cheese/butter corner slicer. Both are made of stainless steel and are not heavy, but not flimsy and lightweight. The packaging for this set was much better than the packaging for the whisk set I got. It was in a box and wrapped in plastic inside.
The cheese slicer is well designed with a wide enough opening to give you a decent slice of cheese when used on a block. It is sharp enough to easily slice through cheese, but not so sharp that you will cut your fingers on it if you touch it. Of course with any kitchen tool there is the possibility of injury, so definitely take care when using it. I have not tested it with a block of cheese since it is going to my mom and I don't want to messy it up and have to wash it and then give it to her used. But it appears to be good quality.
The corner slicer is pretty cool. I had no idea what it was when I first saw it and my parents looked at the pictures I had taken and said they were clueless as to how it is used, too. I had to come home and look at the Amazon listing to see what it was. And then when I did I thought it had to stay with me, I wasn't sharing it. It is designed with a nice angle that allows you to cut cubes out of your cheese or to cut chunks of butter. I often will buy chunked cheese or a block of cheese and then try to cut it in to chunks and always have a hard time getting them uniform. I think this will make it so much easier to make chunks of cheese for the baby to eat.
Being made of stainless steel, both of these tools are easy to use and easy to clean. They can be put in the dishwasher or cleaned by hand. If you scrub them, definitely be sure you use a sponge, rag, or silicone sponge. Don't use something that is abrasive or you will scratch it and leave marks behind.
I think this is a great set of kitchen tools and am glad I picked them up. I initially bought it for my mom, but have since decided she is only getting half of the set and I am keeping the other for myself. She can have the cheese slicer and I am keeping the corner cutter. But for someone wanting both items, this is a great set and doesn't cost a lot of money to buy. Great quality for a decent price.
