Ready to get grillin'

My husband recently told me he wanted to try out these types of bbq and grilling mats to see if they would help make a difference in cooking. I was more than willing to help him out because I hate the cleanup process and scraping all the cooked on grease and food. So I picked up this set of mats for him to try out.   You get four mats in the long rectangular box, all rolled up together and wrapped in cellophane. They are a good size and decently thick. The size of these sheets is 16in x 13in, but if this is too large for you or you want them to fit in smaller grilling pans you can cut them down with kitchen shears to any size. They are FDA approved, made from PTFE materials. They are 100% BPA and PFOA free, which is comforting to me as a mom who worries about what might be going in to my family's bodies. I wanted these because they claim they are safer and healthier for grilling food.   How are they healthier, being just a plain black mat that you put under your food? I guess the claims of healthier eating comes from the lack of need for oils to cook the meats. Typically you have to use oil to keep the foods from sticking and this soaks in to your food, which then goes in to your body. If you have any toxins or chemicals on your grill or cooking areas leftover from cleaning, these can be transferred to your food.    I like the fact that these can be cut down to whatever size you need. I also like the fact that they are dishwasher safe. You can use them over and over again without needing to replace them. The grease and food particles rinse clean from it with just a little soap and water and it takes almost no effort at all to clean them, then toss them in the dishwasher and let the rest come off, leaving them clean and sanitized for the next use.   We have enjoyed using them inside the house. We cut one down to fit in our stovestop grilling pan and the grill marks still show on the meats when grilling. We haven't tried it outside yet, because it has been too cold to use our bbq.
