I got this Ixaer HDMI to AV Converter at a discount through Rank Booster, so I could give my honest review of it. And right up front, I'll say that I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 for a couple of reasons. First of all, it's kind of light plastic, feels cheaply made. And the top of the box has been put on backwards, because the writing that is supposed to be over the swtich and min-USB port is on the wrong side. Which then left me confused, because that means that the "In" and "Out" wording would be reversed, as well. And the instructions are a bit confusing, due to the broken English. For example, it's got the Mini-USB port and came with a mini-usb cable, yet the instructions say "Low power, No power adaptor." (adapter)
So I figured oh well, how hard can it be to figure out. I first tried it with the HDMI cord from my DVD player plugged into the "In" port on the box, and then connected it to my TV with the AV cables. I tried it first without connecting it to power and it didn't work. So I plugged it in, and it worked! This is what you see in the video. Which means I can now plug HDMI devices into the older TV I keep in my spare room for my vintage gaming systems.
But as I was writing this, I thought I should go try it in reverse, by plugging AV cables from my DVD player into the device and then out to the TV with an HDMI cable. Also worked! So it's good to know that it works either way. Basically you can disregard the "In" and "Out" labels on the device, then. I think the fact that you can use it either way is awesome, so I'd recommend it. I just wish it was a little heavier plastic, then I'd have more confidence that it'll last in the long run. But I'm definitely happy with it.
