Great leash, but not a slip lead

 

While this is marketed as a slip leash, don't be fooled. It is not. I ordered it for that purpose, having learned how to use a slip leash with my dogs in training and preferring the control I have over them with leashes like that over a simple leash that clips on to their collar. When I use a slip lead, I don't attach it to their collar at all. I put it around their neck, slide it up to the base of their skull (where pulling on it won't choke the dog or cut off air supply, but applies pressure that they don't like), and adjust the loop down to hold it in place. But there is no loop on this leash to allow you to do that. It has a large, heavy clip hook on the end that you can only attach to something else - their collar or a harness loop - and not to the rope itself. If you were to try to clamp it around the rope, it would slip and not hold tight, which would result in your dog getting loose easily. There is no control with just this leash, which defeats the purpose of using it as a slip lead.  I was disappointed to find that.   On the other hand, the rope itself is nice and thick, definitely durable and strong. I need that with my dogs. I have an English Mastiff and an Australian Shepherd/pit mix. My mastsiff is 165 pounds, my pit mix 85lbs. Both are VERY strong and difficult to control when they have their harnesses and a regular leash on. A harness allows the dog to put their full body weight in to pulling. So I have to have a very strong, thick leash when using the harness to help hold them back. This is definitely strong and durable and works great with the large size of my dogs, but I personally do not have the strength to fight their weight with something like this.   The handle on it is amazing. It is grooved to fit nicely in your hand, padded to keep your hand from being shredded or made raw from any pulling or stress, and is made of a material that absorbs sweat and moisture, keeping your hand dry while using it.   The leash itself is very well made and strong. I am impressed with that. But I wanted a slip lead for them since I have full conrol over my dogs with those.
