Great beginner's oil paint set

  I have been getting more and more interested in painting and have been expressing my creativity through canvas works lately. I never seem to have enough paint brushes, especially when my 11-year-old and 13-year-old decide they want to be creative, too. I have now created a number of canvas art pieces for our house, and my kids have joined me in the process.  I decided it was time to expand our artwork with the move from acrylic paints to oil paints, as well as pick up some more brushes, preferring to buy brushes that come in a pack with different sizes. This was the set I decided on because it has so much in it to offer.   In the package you get one canvas board to work on (8x10" size), a metal paint pallette to mix your paints in, an assortment of brushes and sponges of varying sizes, shapes, and tapers, and 24 small tubes of oil paint. I was a bit surprised at the size of the paint tubes, though. I figured they would be larger and I wondered how long they would last once we began painting. But the consistency of the paint is nice - thick and creamy - and it is easy to mix. Having 24 options to choose from, mixing and creating your own colors is simple and helps to make the paints last far longer.

I was impressed with the variety of brushes. There is plenty to choose from, allowing you to pick the brush that works best for you. There are 25 brushes and sponges in the set, so you will be able to find anything that you need to work with. And they seem to be decent quality, very similar to those I have worked with in the past, so am familiar with the feel and results. The bristles are all great, so far, after a few uses. I have had none of them fall out and get embedded in my artwork, and they are all still even and neat, still soft and pliable. And they are standing up to the abuse of my kids, too, who are not as neat when using them, as gentle when cleaning, or as thorough with their cleaning and prepping for the next use.   Cleaning and prepping for future use was a problem, though. I had to research what I needed to use to clean and preserve them. I wish that a small bottle of solvent or cleaning solutions were included with the set. If that were included, this would be the perfect beginner's set of artist tools.

Despite that, I am very pleased with the results of this set and how well it is all working for me and have no problem buying it again in the future when needed. I honestly would buy the full set again, given all you get in it and the fact that I need brushes as much as I need paint. The price can't be beat.
