In the past I had an electric can opener. I used to always keep one on the counter and used it for every can I had. But over the past few years, I have moved to using manual can openers and decluttering my countertops. I now keep a few manual can openers in the drawer, never knowing when I will need one for something outside of the home and having the capabilities of tossing it in to go with me. I have learned that with the many Scout events we have, having extra can openers and carrying one with me when I go to the day long or weekend events is helpful. It never fails someone needs one and we have to send someone on a hunt to pick one up. I now keep mutliple ones for this very reason.
I have both the traditional can openers that leave sharp, dangerous edges, and the safe ones that cut under the top leaving a clean cut on the lid that won't slice a finger open. This can opener is one of the traditional styles, so use caution when removing lids because the edges will be sharp and there is the possibility of cutting yourself on the can lid edge.
The can opener is well made, heavy, and solid. I have had some lightweight flimsy types that work great but don't last long because they are not substantial in size or weight. This can opener is not like that. It is not overly heavy to the point it will weigh you down or hurt your hand. But it is not cheap and flimsy. It has some substance to it and is a good size for gripping purposes. It is made of plastic and stainless steel, being easy to clean and easy to use. It has a polished head giving it shine and making it look nice. It has a large crank on the side allowing you to easily grasp and turn the mechanism without cramping your hand or hurting it, and soft grip handles that make squeezing it shut and holding it comfortable. It is said to work fine for those with arthritic hands and for senior citizens, neither of which describe anyone in my family, so I can't testify to accuracy.
This is also a multi-functional can opener, so you don't only get the can opener itself, but other tools for use in the kitchen. Well, that is not altogether true. I don't know why it is marketed as having other tools when it is simply a can opener with a bottle opener included. The tip of it has a bottle opener on it allowing you to easily pry the tops of of pesky bottles that are not twist tops, which most beer or soda bottles now have.
It is made of stainless steel so won't rust or corrode and is safe for kitchen and food use. That means easy clean up in case you spill some liquid or food on it. A simple rinse under the faucet is sufficient or you can toss it in the dishwasher if you really want a clean opener. The handles have holes in the end allowing you to hang it if you have somewhere to hang things and don't mind having it on display.
I have had no trouble using this and it has worked fine. I can easily and quickly open cans and slide it back in the drawer without taking too much time out of my cooking. I am pleased with its performance and have nothing negative to say about it.
