My husband has been asking me to keep an eye out for bone conducting headphones for him for awhile. He has been wanting to try some for quite some time, since he first heard of them. But he hasn't wanted to pay the price for them with other things being more important for our money at this time. So I finally found a set for him to try and we willingly paid a discounted price to get them.
He hasn't had a lot of time to play with them yet, but did give them an initial test yesterday. He is planning to use them on his run either later today or at some point tomorrow. He said that will be the true test of whether they work for him or not. So we shall see how the next few days go for him while using them.
He said that the sound quality is good. He can hear things nicely, clear and loud, and has full control over them from his phone. He had no trouble getting them to connect with his phone and didn't experience any interference from anything else while wearing them. They fold up for easy storage, and come with their own carrying bag and a cable to charge them.
But he said they are not truly bone conducting earphones. They fit over the top of your ears and sit right in front of them, leaving your ears open and unplugged. Bone conducting would mean that while it is playing, it goes through the bones to the inner ear, amplifying the sound. But these are more like speakers that are perched on the sides of your face in front of your ears. To be able to hear them, you have to turn up the volume loud enough that I am able to hear the noise from across the room, and more so when I am next to him, though the further away I get, the harder it is to understand what he is listening to. But the fact that I can hear them makes me wonder how good they are at what they say they are designed for. I have no point of reference for comparison since we do not have bone conducting earphones currently, so don't know if that is the way others are, too, or if this is just not the best set.
So while I want to give a positive review, I am not sure I can give it a full 5 stars since I don't know if this is how they are supposed to work or if that is just a flaw in design. At the same time, I can't give it a poor rating because they do work and are convenient in the design for storage purposes. That said, I have to go middle of the road here, and give a more neutral rating.
