This set of FRS / GMRS 22 channel UHF walkie talkies are designed for use at events, while hiking or camping, anywhere you need to keep in touch with members of your group. We use them to communicate between vehicles when traveling with friends. They have a range of 3KM to 5KM, depending on conditions. They require no license for use in the USA. They will work with other brands of FRS/GMRS portable and base station radios.
You can operate them using AA alkaline batteries or with rechargeable lithium battery packs (not included). When using rechargeable battery packs, you recharge them by plugging in a micro-USB charger directly into the radios. PLEASE NOTE: it is possible to plug a charger into a radio containing non-chargeable alkaline batteries, which would make a hazardous condition. Also please note: the Amazon listing is a little vague so I will let you know: USB charging cables are NOT included, though standard micro USB cords, like on Android phones, are the right cords for charging the units.
We purchased radios for our grandkids to use while traveling. We suspect they will get a lot of use at ball games and other school activities as well. We included AA batteries in our gift box (which were not supplied by Fluoreon, we purchased batteries separately).
