My boys do a lot of camping and outdoor activities, thanks to Scouts. Because of that, we need to have some good pocket knives on hand. It is amazing how fast a child can dull a knife and how no matter how many sharpenings you do, you always have to sharpen some more! I have whet stones for each one of us now since the boys kept stealing mine!
This knife was supposed to be for me, and I already almost lost it to my son, but he realized it is a bit too big for his hand (in Scouts the boys measure their knife by the blade - if it is longer than your palm is wide, the knife is too big for you to use and not allowed). I thought he was going to take it, but it is just about half an inch too long, so I am able to keep it in my drawer for me to use on our outings.
And even better, it is not a super expensive one, so all the better! It is a nice solid knife and seems like it is going to be a good one. It is definitely a lot heavier than the one I have been using, which I thought was quite heavy itself. But this one is far heavier. Yet I don't believe it will be so heavy that I can't use it. It is just something heavier than I am used to having in my pockets (which are usually empty), and will add more weight to my daypack.
I absolutely LOVE the look, though. It is rainbow in design with some wood on the handle. It looks great and catches the light as you use it and move it. It is very eye appealing and definitely draws your eye when you open it and use it. It is spring assisted on loading and locks in place while open so you shouldn't have problems with it trying to close while being used.
Here are the specs from their Amazon listing to give you more of an idea of the size:
- Steel: 5Cr13MoV, Titanium; Handle: Aluminum + Wood Handle
- Blade length: 3.55 inch. (9 cm); Closed length: 4.8 inch. (12.2 cm); Overall length: 8.35inch. (21.2cm)
- Weight: 7.97 oz. (226g)
Overall, this is a great knife that looks great and cuts great. I have no clue when I will get to use it, but can't wait to pull it out and see what others think! I have loaned my knife to a few of our Assistant Scoutmasters in the past, and they have always commented on my purple knife with the dragon etched on the side. I can't wait to see what they say they about my shiny rainbow shimmering knife.
