The Clean Viking Bath Brush Set comes in a matte black box with some interesting scrolls printing on the top and two Viking heads. Despite this beautiful artwork, there is nothing on the box to indicate what is inside. If this were sitting on a shelf in a traditional store, I wouldn't give it a second glance as I'd have no clue what it was or contained. The box also included three stickers which show a comical Viking and dragons in various poses. There was supposed to be a sheet of instructions in the box, but my box didn't contain those. I did contact the seller, and they sent me a digital copy of them. In actuality, they are just more Viking cartoons are not really instructional, so them not being included isn't a concern.
Inside the box, we find the wooden handle with attached lanyard, the brush head, the sponge, and the back scrubber folded and shrink wrapped.
I unwrapped the back scrubber and tried to lay it out flat but it will take some time and use for the slice of loofah sponge on it to want to lay flat. One side of it has the loofah sponge on it for deeper scrubbing, the other side is just cloth for lightweight cleaning and buffing.
The brush head has an elastic loop attached to it. You can slip your hand through the loop and use it as a hand held brush for your cleaning needs. The on-line listing for this item indicates it can be used for dry brushing, but I've never done that before so I didn't use it in this manner. I only used it wet, in the shower, with soap, but more on that later. The brush head has a slot in the wood that the included handle can slip into. It is a decreasing wedge shape, so you can snug up the handle very well and use the brush while showering without any fear of the brush head falling off. The handle can be removed to allow for easier drying or to return it to the hand held mode.
The sponge has three holes running through it. It is designed to slide onto the handle and be used as a gentler method of scrubbing than the brush head. It is by no means a snug fit and I had trouble keeping the sponge on the handle while in use. I contacted the seller about this issue. Their response was refreshingly honest. THey indicated using the sponge on the handle does suck and suggested pushing it further down the handle at the expense of reach, or scrubbing in a side to side motion instead of up and down in-line with the handle. I give them kudos for acknowledging a shortcoming in their product and being straight forward about it.
The main reason I got this kit was for the brush to be able to scrub my back as I'm not quite as flexible as I was when younger and find it difficult to sufficiently clean my entire back. I wet the brush, applied some body wash, and went to work. Holy cow is this thing abrasive! Light pressure, heavy pressure, it doesn't matter, this brush is not gentle. It cleaned and exfoliated my back, but there were some areas where I couldn't use it as my skin was just too sensitive for it. I would not use this as an all over body brush as there are some areas this brush just shouldn't go. It was effective at cleaning my back however, so I will continue to use it. It wasn't harsh enough to make it a one use item.
This set receives a 4 out of 5 star rating. I took off one star for the harshness of the brush, and a second for the issues with the sponge not staying on the handle and the missing "instructions". I added back a star for the quick, responsive, and honest customer service I received from the seller each time I contacted them.
