Since upgrading to a new Apple MacBook Pro, after my old one packed in, I've been looking for a reliable, flexible hub to accommodate the various peripherals I use at work. I was given this one to try out, and I was very impressed.
First of all, the hub looks great, it's gun metal black, and solid aluminium. I tested the USB transfer speeds vs the Apple Solo USB adapter (priced at £20 for just a USB adapter) and this was just as quick. This also boasts, USB x2, SD, Micro SD, Ethernet, VGA and HDMI. You can also plug your charger directly into the hub, so if you are using a laptop with limited USB-C ports (such as a MacBook, or MacBook Air), this is ideal.
As with any hub the transfer speeds dropped slightly when I had multiple devices attached, but nothing that stopped me from working at full speed. You would probably experience similar lag with most Macs and PCs with onboard hubs.
All-in-all this is an impressive hub and I would highly recommend it. The price base is also excellent when compared to some of the pricier hubs on the market. And as this one is not moulded to the shape of your computer, as some others are, it will be more useful in the future, or for use between multiple computers.
**Please note** 2 of the USBs are blue. The blue ports are USB 3.0 ports, and very fast. To compare, the USB 2.0 hub takes 4 hours to transfer 150GB, the USB 3.0 hub takes 30 minutes.
